From Fes to Marrakech via the Sahara Desert 

Overview:

This itinerary is a classic "Desert Loop". Since we want to spend two nights in Merzouga, the pace will be relaxed enough to truly enjoy the Sahara.

DAY 1: FES - IFRANE - AZROU - ZIZ VALLEY - MERZOUGA

• Morning: Early departure from Fes (around 8:00 AM).
• The Drive: Head south through the Middle Atlas Mountains.
• Ifrane: Known as "Little Switzerland" for its alpine architecture and cleanliness.
• Azrou: Stop at the Cedar Forest to see the wild Barbary mascaques (monkeys).
• Lunch: Usually in Midelt, the apple capital of Morocco.
• Afternoon: Drive through the Ziz Valley, gamous for its massive palm groves and ancient kasbahs.
• Evening: Arrive in Merzouga. Check into your hotel or Riad at the edge of the dunes for your first night.

DAY 2: FULL DESERT EXPERIENCE (Merzouga and Erg Chebbi)

• Morning: Explore the desert region in a 4x4. Visit the village of Khamlia to hear tradional Gnawa music and visit nomad families living in the black tent in the desert.
• Afternoon: Relax at the hotel or go sandboarding.
• The Camel Trek: in the late afternoon, ride camels into the Erg Chebbi dunes to watch a spectacular sunset.
• Night: Stay in a Luxury Desert Camp (your second night). Enjoy dinner under the stars and tradional Berber music around a campfire.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA - RISSANI - TODRA GORGES - DADES VALLEY - BOUMALNE DADES or QUARZAZATE

• Sunrise: Wake up early to see the sun rise over the dunes.
• Morning: Camel trek or 4x4 back to Merzouga after breakfast.
• Rissani: Visit the traditional market (Souk) if it's market day (Sun, Tue, Thu).
• Todra Gorges: Walk through the massive 300-meter-high limestone canyons.
• Evening: Continue to the Dades Valley or Boumalne Dades. This breaks up the long yourney to Marrakech and offers stunning scenery of the "Valley of 1'000 Kasbahs".

DAY 4: DADES (The High Atlas) - MARRAKESH

• Morning: Depart from Quarzazate (Africa's Hollywood).
• Ait Ben Haddou: Tour this UNESCO World Heritage site, a famous filming location for GLADIATOR and GAME OF THRONES.
• Afternoon: Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2'260m altitudec). The views are incredible but the road is winding.
• Evening: Arrive in Marrakech. Drop-off at your Riad or Hotel.
